Elizabeth during Perth Heritage Weekend 14 & 15 October 2017, when she attended an exhibit and talk about Mary Raine who, aged 23, migrated to Australia in 1900 with just 100 pounds, and over a lifetime built up considerable wealth in property in Perth. In 1957, through a generous bequest to The University of Western Australia, The Raine Medical Research Foundation was established which now uses funds in excess of $50m to actively support medical research in W.A.

As reported in The Senior News, the achievements of Western Australia’s women’s groups were acknowledged as part of the 2013 International Women’s Day celebrations, with 83 groups inducted into the WA Hall of Fame. Every one of the groups was set up with the aim of helping women. Included in the above photograph of the Hall of Famers is Elizabeth Re who in her role as president of the Australian Local Government Women’s Association in WA, was privileged to be asked to represent the organisation.
